AB
Over a thousand people suffer a stroke each year in Calgary. Many of these persons are discharged back into the community and suffer from emotional stress, and/or speech and physical defects.
The Association was formed in 1980 and is comprised of stroke recoverers and their families in Calgary, Alberta and the surrounding area. As a volunteer organization we address the specific needs of stroke recoverers in dealing with their new lifestyle, and help caregivers dealing with stroke survivors.
Our motto: Independent living through self help
Our objectives...
1) To provide after care support for stroke survivors and their families.
2) To promote independent living for stroke survivors.
3) To provide a means of interaction for stroke survivors through education, socialization, recreation, and therapy programs.
4) To provide a resource data base and referrals of community services available to stroke survivors.
5) To interact with health care professionals to assist with confined patients.
6) To promote public awareness of stroke survivor needs in the community through presentations to hospitals, health care groups and families.
